Rhythm-heavy post-rock that dissolves into deep, echo-laden dub. A hypnotic blend of jazz precision and murky, atmospheric grooves for deep focus.
Formed in 1995, the American post-rock ensemble HiM was founded by drummer Doug Scharin. Originally characterized by a heavy dub influence on early releases like Egg, the group evolved through various lineup changes involving musicians from Tortoise and June of 44. Over time, their sound transitioned from dub-centric compositions toward jazz-inflected arrangements and world music textures, culminating in international touring and the 2003 release of Many in High Places Are Not Well.
