Gritty 90s guitar riffs meeting sharp electronic beats. High-energy indie pop with a hip-hop backbone for urban nights and neon-lit dance floors.
Hesta Prynn sounds like the intersection of a basement rock show and a high-end electronic club. Her music is defined by a 'post-everything' philosophy that pulls from the grit of 90s alternative rock and the rhythmic precision of hip-hop, all polished into an accessible pop package. It is the sound of New York City at its most vibrant: fast-paced, multi-layered, and unapologetically cool.
What makes her distinctive is the way she maintains a hip-hop undercurrent even when the surface of the song is shimmering with synths or crunching with guitars. Her vocal delivery often sits in a compelling middle ground between rhythmic rapping and melodic singing, delivered with a deadpan confidence that feels both intimate and detached. This blend allows her to collaborate with artists as diverse as Neon Indian and Jay-Z without losing her sonic identity.
Start with the 'Can We Go Wrong' EP. The title track perfectly captures her ability to turn a danceable beat into a vehicle for indie-rock attitude. It is the ideal entry point for anyone who loves the energy of M.I.A. but craves the melodic sensibilities of Tegan and Sara.
