Originally formed under the name Casus Belli, the group rebranded to Helvegen, a name borrowed from a Wardruna track meaning 'The Path to Hell,' signaling their shift toward a more spiritual and historical aesthetic.

Their sound identity is defined by a heavy reliance on tribal percussion, Slavic and Norse mythological themes, and a vocal style that fluctuates between deep, resonant growls and traditional folk chanting. Since 2021, they have been prolific, releasing a series of albums and singles that lean heavily into cinematic arrangements and 'The Witcher' style dark-fantasy atmospheres.
