Intro

Helen Sjöholm possesses a voice that feels like a natural element of the Swedish landscape: clear, powerful, and resonant. Her music sits at the intersection of high-drama musical theatre and the intimate warmth of Nordic folk. There is a profound sense of storytelling in every note, often backed by lush, organic arrangements that favor pianos, accordions, and sweeping string sections. It is music that feels both grand enough for a cathedral and intimate enough for a living room.

What truly distinguishes Sjöholm is her technical mastery of the 'belt' - a powerful, chest-led vocal style that never sacrifices emotional vulnerability for volume. Her long-standing collaboration with ABBA's Benny Andersson has infused her work with a specific kind of melodic sophistication, blending pop sensibilities with traditional Swedish 'visa' (folk song) structures. Her delivery is marked by impeccable diction and a unique ability to convey existential weight through simple, poetic phrasing.

New listeners should begin with the legendary 'Du måste finnas' from the musical Kristina från Duvemåla to understand her staggering vocal range. From there, explore her solo work like 'Visor' for a more stripped-back, folk-oriented experience, or her recordings with the Benny Anderssons Orkester for a joyful, dance-inflected take on the Swedish summer tradition.
