Head Wound City

Head Wound City is a seminal hardcore supergroup formed in 2005, representing a nexus point for the San Diego and New York noise-rock scenes. The lineup features Jordan Blilie and Cody Votolato (The Blood Brothers), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Justin Pearson and Gabe Serbian (The Locust).

Their sound identity is defined by 'thrashcore' and 'noisecore' aesthetics, characterized by extremely short song lengths, blast-beat percussion, and dual-guitar dissonance that bridges the gap between grindcore and art-rock. Their 2005 debut EP, recorded in a single week, became a cult classic for its uncompromising speed and surrealist lyrical bent. After a decade-long hiatus, they returned in 2016 with 'A New Wave of Violence,' which retained their signature abrasiveness while introducing slightly more structured, post-punk influenced arrangements. Critically, they are viewed as a 'musician's band,' showcasing the technical proficiency required to play at extreme speeds while maintaining a distinct, avant-garde sensibility.
