High-energy Eurodance and Italo-pop that defined the early 2000s. Shimmering synths and multilingual hooks built for summer nights and crowded dance floors.
Haiducii represents the peak of the 2000s Eurodance explosion, where Romanian melodies met polished Italian production. The sound is characterized by relentless four-on-the-floor rhythms, bright synth stabs, and a vocal delivery that balances pop accessibility with the high-octane energy of a trance club. It is music that feels inherently sunny, even when it is designed for the darkest corners of a nightclub.
What makes Haiducii distinctive is the cross-cultural synthesis. By taking tracks like 'Dragostea Din Tei' and infusing them with a specific Italo-dance sheen, she created a bridge between Eastern European folk-pop sensibilities and Western European club culture. Her work often features multilingual lyrics spanning Romanian, Russian, and English, delivered with a breathy, processed precision that cuts through dense electronic arrangements.
Start with the 2004 version of 'Dragostea Din Tei' to understand the global phenomenon, then move to 'Mne S Toboy Horosho' for a deeper look at her Russian-influenced dance hits. These tracks are essential for anyone looking to recapture the specific, neon-soaked optimism of the mid-2000s European pop charts.
Paula Monica Mitrache (born 14 June 1971), known by the stage name Haiducii (Romanian pronunciation: [hajˈdutʃij]), is a Romanian singer and model. Her first single, "Dragostea din tei", was released in 2004, which is a cover of O-Zone's homonymous single of the previous year; commercially, it reached widespread success, reaching no. 1 in Austria, Italy, Portugal and Sweden, as well as the top ten in eight other countries, and it was also certified Gold and Platinum in several other territories. In late 2004, Haiducii released another song, "Mne s Toboy Horosho", cover of the homonymous 2003 single of the Russian band Ruki Vverh, and in late 2005 another one, "More 'N' More (I Love You)": these two songs managed to hit the chart, reaching no. 5 and 8 in Italy, respectively. The singer's debut album, Paula Mitrache in Haiducii, followed in 2008 and included these first songs that evolved into hits. She has Italian citizenship.
