Intro

GSoul creates music that occupies the quietest corners of the night. His sound is built on a foundation of classic soul and gospel training, but it is filtered through a modern, minimalist lens that emphasizes space and emotional weight. There is a profound sense of intimacy in his delivery, as if he is singing directly to the listener in a room where the lights have just been dimmed. The production often stays out of the way, favoring warm electric pianos and subtle, pulsing basslines that allow his vocal agility to take center stage.

What truly distinguishes GSoul is his technical mastery of the melisma and falsetto, used not for showmanship but as a vehicle for raw vulnerability. Unlike many of his contemporaries who lean into the 'cool' detachment of alt-R&B, GSoul embraces a more traditional, heart-on-sleeve emotionality. His phrasing carries the weight of his long journey through the industry, blending the precision of a seasoned pro with the weary soul of someone who has seen the highs and lows of the creative life.

For those new to his catalog, start with the EP Hate Everything. The title track is a masterclass in how to make a breakup song feel both expansive and claustrophobic at once. From there, explore Coming Home to hear his more experimental, electronic-tinged beginnings under JYP, which showcases the versatility of his range before he settled into his current, more organic soul identity.

Kim Ji-hyun (Korean: 김지현; born June 16, 1988), professionally known as Golden or GSoul, is a South Korean singer-songwriter. He first made his debut under JYP Entertainment with the release of his EP Coming Home on January 19, 2015. On June 6, 2017, it was revealed that he left JYP and would be joining H1ghr Music. On December 2, 2019, it was announced by H1ghr Music that G.Soul would change his name to Golden, named after a song by Jill Scott. On January 11, 2021, he announced via Instagram Stories that he would be changing his name back to G.Soul.
