Polished, blues-infused hard rock with soaring vocals and stadium-sized hooks. High-octane Swiss craftsmanship for open roads and late nights.
Gotthard delivers a masterclass in the kind of hard rock that feels both massive and intimate. Their sound is built on a foundation of gritty, blues-based guitar riffs and a rhythm section that hits with the precision of a Swiss watch. It is music designed for large spaces, carrying the torch of 70s and 80s giants into a modern, high-fidelity production landscape.
What truly sets them apart is the sheer melodicism of their songwriting. While many of their peers lean into aggression, Gotthard prioritizes the hook, blending raspy, soulful vocals with lush acoustic passages and soaring electric leads. There is a palpable warmth to their recordings, avoiding the sterile digital sheen of many contemporary rock acts in favor of something that feels lived-in and authentic.
Start with the 1996 album 'G.' to hear them at their commercial and creative peak, or 'D-Frosted' for a look at how their stadium anthems translate into a soulful, acoustic setting. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who misses the era when rock was defined by great singers and even better choruses.
Gotthard is a Swiss hard rock band founded in Lugano by Steve Lee and Leo Leoni. Their last sixteen albums have all reached number one in the Swiss album charts, making them one of the most successful Swiss acts ever. With over three million albums sold, they have received multi-platinum awards across the world. The band takes its name from the Saint-Gotthard Massif. Singer Steve Lee died in a motorcycle accident on 5 October 2010. In November 2011, Gotthard announced a new singer, Nic Maeder, through their official Facebook page and their website with a new song, "Remember It's Me", downloadable for free.
