Intro

Listening to Glenn Kotche is like watching a master watchmaker at work, but the gears are made of hubcaps, crotales, and contact microphones. While many know him as the rhythmic engine of Wilco, his solo work strips away the rock artifice to reveal a fascination with pure vibration and mathematical structure. It is music that feels both ancient and futuristic, grounded in the tactile reality of wood striking metal.

What sets Kotche apart is his ability to make a single drum kit sound like a full ensemble. He uses prepared surfaces, motorized beaters, and found objects to create layers of melody and texture that defy the traditional role of a drummer. There is a restless curiosity in his compositions, a sense that any object in the room could be a musical instrument if hit with the right amount of intent.

Start with the album 'Mobile' to hear how he bridges the gap between avant-garde percussion and accessible, rhythmic storytelling. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who appreciates the intersection of technical brilliance and sonic exploration.
