Gary Willis

Gary Willis is a foundational figure in modern electric bass, primarily recognized for co-founding the seminal fusion group Tribal Tech alongside guitarist Scott Henderson. A graduate of the University of North Texas, Willis transitioned from guitar to bass, a move that informed his highly harmonic and chordal approach to the instrument.

His sound identity is defined by his use of a signature Ibanez fretless 5-string bass, characterized by a 'liquid' sustain and precise intonation.
