Frágil is widely considered the most important progressive rock band in Peruvian history. Formed in 1976, they successfully navigated the transition from the experimental symphonic rock of the 1970s to the more accessible rock en español movement of the 1980s.
Their sound identity is built on a foundation of classic prog-rock tropes: multi-part song structures, virtuosic keyboard work (Hammond B3, Mellotron, and Arp synths), and prominent flute melodies reminiscent of Jethro Tull. However, their cultural position is unique; unlike many prog bands that remained niche, Frágil achieved mainstream success in Peru with the hit 'Av. Larco', which became an unofficial anthem for the city of Lima. Their career arc includes a notable evolution from pure symphonic rock to a more polished art-rock sound, later culminating in grand live collaborations with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lima.
