Folkearth

Folkearth is a seminal international folk metal project founded in 2003, operating as a decentralized collective rather than a traditional band. Initiated by Ruslanas Danisevskis, the project has involved over 30 musicians from countries including Greece, Sweden, Lithuania, the USA, and Germany.

Their sound identity is defined by the integration of authentic, often rare, folk instruments - such as the saz, lute, and nyckelharpa - into a Viking metal framework. The project's evolution is marked by a prolific output, releasing over a dozen albums that range from aggressive black-influenced metal to purely acoustic folk explorations. Critically, Folkearth is noted for its pioneering 'remote collaboration' model, which predated the commonality of internet-based music projects. While production quality varies due to the disparate recording environments of its members, the collective is respected for its dedication to pan-European heritage and its role in fostering a global pagan metal community.
