Their sonic identity is defined by Russell Burn's unconventional drumming (eschewing hi-hats and cymbals) and a dual-guitar attack that prioritized scratchy, treble-boosted textures over traditional chords. This 'Hungry Beat' aesthetic was famously documented on their debut album, Lubricate Your Living Room, released on the Pop:Aural label. Despite a short initial lifespan, their influence is immense; they provided the blueprint for the 'spiky' indie rock revival of the early 2000s, directly impacting bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Rapture.
