Fialta

Bright, literary indie pop built on shimmering vocal harmonies and auxiliary percussion. It feels like the exact moment summer starts to fade into autumn.

Intro

Fialta sounds like a Polaroid of a California summer that has been left in the sun just long enough for the edges to curl. Their music is built on a foundation of bright, interlocking melodies and a rich tapestry of vocal harmonies that feel both communal and intimate. There is a distinct sense of movement in their arrangements, often driven by playful percussion and warm keyboard textures that evoke the breezy, sun-drenched atmosphere of the Central Coast.

What truly sets them apart is their 'literary pop' sensibility. With members holding advanced degrees in English and Creative Writing, the lyrics often function like short stories, filled with specific imagery and a sophisticated emotional intelligence. They manage to balance a high-energy, sync-friendly pop sheen with a deeper, more contemplative undercurrent that grapples with themes of seasonal change, regional identity, and the passage of time.

Start with their debut album, Summer Winter. It perfectly encapsulates their ability to craft infectious, radio-ready hooks that reward closer listening with complex arrangements and thoughtful, narrative-driven songwriting. It is the definitive soundtrack for anyone who finds beauty in the intersection of pop craftsmanship and poetic depth.

Fialta is an indie pop band from San Luis Obispo, California. The group consists of David Provenzano and Michael Leibovich (formerly of Sherwood), Beth Clements, and Sarah Shotwell. The band formed in 2011 and released their first full-length album, Summer Winter, in 2013. The band's name was inspired by the Nabokov story, "Spring in Fialta". The band has made a name for itself primarily through sync licensing. In 2013, Fialta's song "Summer Winter" was featured in a Kmart television ad, and in 2014, the song "Sleepytime" was used for a Chipotle sponsorship ad for the PBS show, Food Forward. Their music has also been played on the television series Awkward, A to Z, Parenthood, Degrassi, BoJack Horseman, and About a Boy.
