Feigur

Feigur is a French atmospheric black metal project founded in 2007 by the multi-instrumentalist known as Graf von Feigur. Emerging from the prolific French black metal underground, the project quickly distinguished itself by leaning heavily into the 'depressive' sub-strain (DSBM) while maintaining a high degree of melodic sophistication and atmospheric depth.

The sound is characterized by mid-tempo arrangements, heavy use of reverb, and a 'wall of sound' guitar production that prioritizes texture over technicality. Throughout the discography, particularly on the landmark release 'II, Desolation', Feigur has explored the intersection of black metal and ambient music, utilizing subtle keyboard layers and piano to enhance the sense of isolation. The project's evolution has seen it move from the more traditional, raw aesthetics of the debut 'I, Pestilence' toward the expansive and almost post-rock inflected 'III, Ascension'. Critically, Feigur is respected for avoiding the more histrionic tropes of the DSBM genre in favor of a mature, stoic brand of melancholy. The project occupies a similar cultural space to artists like Lustre and Hypothermia, serving as a bridge between extreme metal and dark ambient music.
