Fear of Men

Fear of Men emerged from the Brighton indie scene in 2011, initially gaining traction through a series of limited-edition cassettes and 7-inch singles that showcased a sophisticated take on dream pop and indie pop. Led by Jessica Weiss, the band's sound identity is defined by a tension between melodic accessibility and a cold, almost sculptural aesthetic.

Their early compilation, Early Fragments, established them as heirs to the Sarah Records lineage, but with a darker, more existential lyrical focus. Their 2014 debut LP, Loom, was a critical success, praised for its cohesive atmosphere and Weiss's distinctive vocal delivery. The 2016 follow-up, Fall Forever, marked a significant sonic shift toward electronic manipulation and a more 'industrial' approach to dream pop, influenced by a desire to move away from traditional rock instrumentation. Critically, they are often grouped with the 'nu-gaze' movement but are noted for their intellectual rigor and avoidance of generic genre tropes.
