Extince, born Peter Kops, is a foundational figure in Dutch-language hip-hop (Nederhop). Emerging in the mid-1980s initially rapping in English, his 1995 single 'Spraakwater' marked a tectonic shift in the Dutch music industry, proving that rap in the native tongue could achieve massive commercial success without sacrificing underground credibility.
His sound is characterized by a heavy reliance on funk and soul samples, a relaxed baritone delivery, and a highly sophisticated use of the Dutch language, often incorporating his regional Oosterhout accent and dialect. His debut album, 'Binnenlandse Funk' (1998), is widely considered a classic of the genre, establishing a blueprint for the 'soft G' rap scene that would later flourish in the southern Netherlands.
