Intro

Evynne Hollens delivers music that feels like the bright lights of a theater stage condensed into a private listening experience. Her sound is defined by a crystalline soprano voice that possesses both the technical precision of collegiate a cappella and the emotional weight of a Broadway lead. The production is typically pristine, favoring clear vocal lines and rich, multi-tracked harmonies that create a wall of sound without the need for heavy instrumentation.

What truly sets her apart is her ability to inhabit a character within a song. Whether she is covering a modern pop hit or a classic show tune, she applies a storyteller's touch, utilizing dramatic crescendos and subtle vibrato to guide the listener through an emotional arc. Her background in the a cappella world is evident in the intricate vocal arrangements that often serve as the primary rhythmic and harmonic foundation of her tracks.

For those new to her work, starting with her Broadway-focused collections is essential. These recordings showcase her range and her ability to modernize traditional theatrical styles for a digital audience. It is music for people who appreciate the craft of singing and the power of a well-told story through song.

Evynne Hollens (née Smith) is an American vocalist who lives and works in her native Eugene, Oregon. She was one of the co-founders of the University of Oregon’s female a cappella group, Divisi, with which she sang for five years. Her name is the first word in the first chapter of the book Pitch Perfect, on which the movie of the same title is based. Her and Divisi’s adventures at the 2005 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Finals make up a major portion of the book.
