Lush, big-band disco that feels like a high-end rooftop party in Brooklyn. Impeccable live musicianship meets modern house energy for the ultimate dancefloor glow.
Escort sounds like the most expensive party you have ever been invited to, where the band is massive, the horns are sharp, and the groove is undeniable. It is a rich, technicolor update on the classic disco sound, swapping out thin retro pastiche for heavy, muscular basslines and shimmering analog synths. The vocals soar with a classic diva confidence, cutting through a dense wall of live percussion and orchestral flourishes.
What sets them apart is the sheer scale of their sound. While most nu-disco is built in a bedroom on a laptop, Escort operates as a seventeen-member orchestra. This gives their music a physical weight and a human swing that digital production cannot replicate. You can hear the room, the sweat, and the collective timing of a dozen musicians locking into a single, relentless rhythm. It is sophisticated but never stiff.
Start with their self-titled 2011 debut, specifically the track Starlight. It perfectly captures their mission statement: a timeless, glittering anthem that feels like it could have been a lost 1979 classic while sounding crisp enough to lead a modern house set. It is music for movement, celebration, and feeling slightly more glamorous than you actually are.
Escort is an American nu-disco band based out of Brooklyn, New York. Founded by Dan Balis, Eugene Cho and Darius Maghen including (previous) lead vocalist Adeline Michèle, they are known for their modern and live dance music sound. Founders Dan Balis and Eugene Cho met at Vassar College and started making house singles in the early 2000s. Escort started as a studio project for the duo who, "wanted to make records in the spirit of the old ones we were sampling." Despite being a self-proclaimed disco band they "are very careful to make music that doesn't just sound and feel old, but is actually relevant for DJs and listeners today." Their first single, "Starlight", was released to critical acclaim, which led to the band being invited to make their live debut at the P.S.1 Warm Up series. A flash mob of 300 dancers coordinated a group dance to Escort's remix of Feist's "I Feel It All" in the Eaton Center in Toronto for International Dance Day. Escort's "Starlight" was featured in DSW's (Designer Shoe Warehouse) fall 2013 commercial, "Savvy Shoe Lovers."
