Douglas Appling, the American producer and DJ known as Emancipator, crafts music within the trip hop and downtempo genres. Based in Portland, Oregon, he began his career in 2006 with the self-released album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough. His extensive discography includes eight studio albums, several EPs, and remix collections. Appling also established Loci Records in 2012 and later formed the live performance group, the Emancipator Ensemble.
