Intro

Elysia Crampton's music feels like a tectonic shift occurring in real-time. It is a dense, multi-layered experience where digital artifacts and traditional Andean rhythms collide, creating a sound that is both ancient and startlingly modern. The textures are often dusty and gritty, evoking the physical landscapes of Virginia and the high plains of the Andes, yet there is a crystalline clarity to her sample choices that keeps the listener anchored.

What makes her work truly distinctive is the way she uses the 'epic collage' technique to tell stories of survival and identity. She doesn't just blend genres; she deconstructs them to explore Aymara ontology and queer history. You might hear a crunk beat dissolve into a field recording of a thunderstorm, or a delicate piano melody interrupted by the mechanical whir of a sampler, all serving a larger narrative of resistance and continuity.

For those new to her world, American Drift is the essential starting point. It captures her transition into a more expansive, geological sound that feels like a journey through both physical and spiritual terrain. It is music that demands your full attention, rewarding the patient listener with a profound sense of place and history.

Elysia Chuquimia Paula Crampton, known primarily by their Aymara name, Chuquimamani-Condori, is an American electronic musician, producer, poet, and composer. Their work touches upon themes of Aymara survival, LGBT and Aymara femme heritage, science fiction, references to Christian faith and ontology, and frequent utilization of samples and arrangements from varying sources. They make up one half of Los Thuthanaka, along with their brother Joshua Chuquimia Crampton. The two siblings identify with the Pakajaqi nation of Aymara people. In fall 2025, they were awarded the Venice Biennale Silver Lion award following the release of Los Thuthanaka's self-titled album that spring.
