Elvenking

Formed in 1997 in Sacile, Italy, Elvenking emerged as a pivotal force in the second wave of European folk metal. Unlike their Scandinavian peers who often focused on Viking themes or black metal foundations, Elvenking drew heavily from the melodic structures of Helloween and Skyclad, blending Italian melodic sensibilities with British folk-rock influences.

Their 2001 debut, Heathenreel, was a critical success that defined the 'Folk-Power' subgenre, characterized by the prominent use of violin as a lead instrument alongside electric guitars. The band's history is marked by the central creative partnership of guitarist Aydan and vocalist Damnagoras, whose brief departure in the mid-2000s led to the more experimental, keyboard-heavy album Wyrd. Upon his return, the band solidified a sound that incorporates elements of hard rock, pop-punk hooks, and even extreme metal textures.
