Sun-drenched French electropop built on brotherly harmonies and shimmering disco synths. Perfect for golden hour drives and high-energy summer nostalgia.
Elephanz crafts a specific brand of French pop that feels like a permanent summer vacation. Their sound is defined by the seamless vocal interplay between brothers Jonathan and Maxime Verleysen, whose voices blend with a natural, intuitive precision that only siblings can achieve. It is music that occupies the sweet spot between indie-rock sensitivity and the polished, rhythmic drive of modern electronic dance music.
What truly distinguishes them is their ability to marry melancholic lyrical themes with infectious, upbeat production. You might find yourself dancing to a track about heartbreak, propelled by a thick, disco-influenced bassline and staccato guitar work that recalls the lighter side of French Touch. Their melodies are relentlessly catchy, often utilizing simple but effective synth motifs that linger long after the track ends.
Start with their self-titled 2017 album to hear their sound at its most refined. Tracks like 'Maryland' showcase their knack for anthemic choruses and shimmering textures, while their earlier hit 'Stereo' captures the raw, indie-pop energy that first put them on the map. It is essential listening for anyone who loves pop that is both sophisticated and unashamedly fun.
Elephanz is a French electro / pop duo formed in January 2008 by the two brothers Jonathan 'Jon' and Maxime 'Max' Verleysen, originating from Nantes, France. The Verleysen brothers are the sole composers and songwriters of their albums. They are both vocalists, with Jonathan playing guitar and Maxime the keyboards. Their live performances include Clement Plaza-Illand playing the drums. They are currently signed to Blackbird / Affection London / Musicast and are managed by Yamani 'Momo' Dazi (who previously co-founded the label Big Cheese Records).
