Earlimart

Earlimart is a central fixture of the early 2000s Los Angeles indie rock scene, led by the duo of Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray. Originally emerging with a noisier, post-punk aesthetic influenced by Pixies and Sonic Youth, the band underwent a significant sonic evolution toward a more fragile, lo-fi, and melodic sound.

P. and the landmark 2004 album Treble & Tremble, the latter of which served as a poignant tribute to their late friend and collaborator Elliott Smith. Their sound is characterized by hushed, double-tracked vocals, vintage synth textures, and a melancholic songwriting sensibility that aligns them closely with Grandaddy and Sparklehorse. Culturally, they represent the bridge between 90s lo-fi grit and the more polished indie-pop of the late 2000s. Beyond their own discography, Espinoza and Murray are key collaborators within the 'Ship' collective, eventually forming the supergroup Admiral Radley with members of Grandaddy.
