DREZDEN

Drezden is the electronic project of Siarhei Mikhalok, a pivotal figure in Belarusian and Ukrainian music history known for his leadership of Lyapis Trubetskoy and Brutto. Formed in 2018, Drezden represents a radical stylistic shift for Mikhalok, moving away from the brass-heavy ska-punk and aggressive hard rock of his previous outfits toward a sophisticated synth-pop and new wave aesthetic.

The project is a collaboration with guitarist Vladimir Opsenitsa, creating a sound characterized by vintage analog synthesizers, driving electronic percussion, and Mikhalok's signature baritone vocals. Culturally, Drezden occupies a space of 'intellectual electronic music,' blending philosophical and surrealist lyrics with social commentary relevant to the post-Soviet landscape. The project has been critically lauded for its high production values and its ability to reinvent a legendary punk figure as a credible electronic artist. Influences range from Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode to the darker corners of 80s Yugoslavian and Soviet synth-pop. Drezden stands as a testament to Mikhalok's artistic evolution, trading the megaphone for the synthesizer without losing his characteristic spirit of defiance.
