Snarky, lo-fi indie rock written from the perspective of a fictional antagonist. High-energy garage punk for people who prefer the villains.
Draco and the Malfoys deliver a sharp, witty blend of indie rock and garage punk that prioritizes character over polish. The sound is rooted in the DIY ethos of the mid-2000s, featuring crunchy guitars, straightforward drumming, and vocals that alternate between earnest singing and a snide, deadpan delivery. It feels like a high school talent show performance by the smartest, most cynical kids in the room.
What truly distinguishes the band is their unwavering commitment to the bit. By adopting the persona of Draco Malfoy, they flip the script on traditional fan music, offering a humorous and often surprisingly insightful look at the Harry Potter universe through the eyes of its most famous bully. The music is catchy enough to stand on its own, but the clever lyrical subversions are what keep listeners engaged.
Start with their self-titled debut or 'Party Like You're Evil' to get the full experience of their 'Slytherin rock' aesthetic. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who enjoys nerd rock, power pop, or music that doesn't take itself too seriously while still being genuinely well-crafted.
Draco and the Malfoys are a wizard rock band founded in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 2004. The group is composed of half-brothers Brian Ross and Bradley Mehlenbacher, who both perform under the persona of Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter book series. Since the band's formation in 2004, they have released five full-length studio albums, one extended play release, and have contributed to four compilation albums. In late 2013 in an interview with Wizrocklopedia, Brian Ross confirmed that he and Bradley were in the process of making a new album and released a new single called "Cheat to Win".
