Intro

Doums delivers a masterclass in relaxed authority. His music feels like the natural heartbeat of Paris after dark: sophisticated, slightly weary, but undeniably cool. He moves between classic boom-bap structures and more modern, ethereal cloud-rap textures without ever losing his grounding. It is the sound of a rapper who doesn't need to shout to be heard, relying instead on a fluid, conversational flow that feels like an intimate late-night dialogue.

What truly sets Doums apart is his role as a connective tissue within the French rap scene. His work is deeply communal, often featuring his L'Entourage peers, yet he maintains a distinct sonic identity characterized by lush, often jazz-tinged production and a penchant for atmospheric synths. There is a sense of loyalty and brotherhood baked into the tracks, making the listening experience feel like being invited into an inner circle.

Start with the 'Pilote' series to hear his evolution from a sharp-tongued technician to a curator of complex moods. 'Pilot3' showcases his peak versatility, while 'Stars' offers a more expansive, cinematic look at his world. It is essential listening for anyone who appreciates the intersection of technical lyricism and immersive, moody production.

Mamadou Coulibaly (born 3 March 1992), commonly known by his stage name "Doums", is a French rapper, born in Bamako, Mali. He was part of a duo called "2Fingz" from 2011 with the late rapper Népal, which was active until Népal's death in 2019, and is a member of the collective L'Entourage (lit. 'The entourage'). He is pillar member of the group and is especially close to Nekfeu, who he often appears with. After numerous appearances and a project with L'Entourage, he released three successive EPs: Pilote (2017), Pilote & Co (2019) and Pilot3 (2021).
