DJ Sneak (Carlos Sosa) is a foundational figure in the second wave of Chicago house, bridging the gap between the raw warehouse sounds of the 1980s and the polished global house movement of the late 90s. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago, his sound is defined by a 'jackin' aesthetic that incorporates Latin rhythmic sensibilities into a rigid 4/4 framework.

He is widely credited with pioneering the 'filtered disco' subgenre, a technique that heavily influenced the French Touch movement, specifically artists like Daft Punk and Armand Van Helden. His production style is characterized by the use of the Akai MPC sampler to create heavily swung, syncopated drum patterns and the aggressive use of low-pass and high-pass filters on disco loops. Throughout his career, Sneak has maintained a staunchly underground ethos, often acting as a vocal defender of house music's vinyl roots and original culture. His work on labels like Cajual, Relief, and his own Defiant Records remains a blueprint for producers seeking a balance between soulful sampling and tough, club-ready percussion.
