Dextro

Dextro is the solo project of Ewan Mackenzie, a Scottish multi-instrumentalist whose work occupies a unique space between the pastoral and the cosmic. Emerging in the mid-2000s, Dextro became closely associated with the Border Community label, sharing a sonic kinship with James Holden and Nathan Fake through a focus on organic, slightly unstable electronic textures.

His sound identity is defined by the interplay of live drumming, processed guitar, and dense synthesizer layers, often described by critics as 'stargazing' or 'mountainous.' Unlike purely generative ambient music, Dextro's compositions often follow a narrative arc of tension and release, mimicking the physical experience of a climb. His career has seen releases on respected labels like Groenland and Border Community, with remixes by Warp's Clark cementing his status in the electronic vanguard.
