Bright, conversational acoustic guitar duets that feel like a sunny afternoon. Instrumental pop with a breezy, virtuosic heart for focused work or slow mornings.
Imagine the feeling of a perfectly clear spring day where everything seems to move in sync. DEPAPEPE captures that exact frequency through two acoustic guitars, creating music that is technically dazzling yet remains incredibly accessible. Their sound is defined by a 'singing' quality in the lead guitar lines, replacing a human vocalist with melodies so catchy you will find yourself humming along to an instrumental track.
What sets them apart is the chemistry between Takuya Miura and Yoshinari Tokuoka. They do not just play together; they converse. One might provide a driving, percussive rhythm while the other weaves intricate, high-speed melodies, only for them to switch roles or lock into a soaring unison chorus. It is music that feels light and airy but possesses a hidden muscularity in its execution.
Start with the album 'Let's Go!!!' to hear them at their most iconic. It perfectly encapsulates their ability to turn the acoustic guitar into a vehicle for pure, unadulterated optimism. Whether you are looking for a backdrop for a productive afternoon or a soundtrack for a weekend drive, their catalog offers a consistent sense of warmth and momentum.
Depapepe (デパペペ) is a music group originating from Japan. The acoustic guitar duo is composed of Takuya Miura (born 5 April 1983) and Yoshinari Tokuoka (born on 15 July 1977), who formed in 2002. They made their major debut in 2005 with their album "Let's Go!!!", which generated sales figures of about 100,000 and ranked within the top 10 of Oricon's Instrumental Artist Debut Chart. Before that, they had released three indie albums. The name itself comes from the combination of both short names of the band members, by combining the Japanese word for overbite, 'deppa', and the name of Tokuoka's previous band 'DERUPEPE'. Contrary to a popular rumour circulating among their fans, the two guitarists are not brothers. In their 2002 formation the pair joined with the Sony Music. They worked on insert songs for anime television series Honey and Clover.
