Formed in 1988 in Sacramento, California, Deftones are a prominent American alternative and nu metal band signed to Warner Music Group. The group, which featured the late bassist Chi Cheng, draws creative inspiration from artists like Metallica, Soundgarden, and Depeche Mode. Following their 1995 debut Adrenaline, the band achieved significant commercial success and critical acclaim, notably winning a Grammy Award for their experimental work on the platinum-certified album White Pony.
