Dawes emerged from the Los Angeles scene in 2009, rising from the ashes of the post-punk band Simon Dawes. Led by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, the band pivoted toward a sound deeply rooted in the 1970s Laurel Canyon aesthetic, drawing direct lines from Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
Their sound identity is defined by high-fidelity analog production, intricate guitar work, and a focus on narrative songwriting that often borders on the philosophical.
