Danheim

Danheim is the primary project of Danish producer Mike Schæfer Olsen, who successfully pivoted from a decade in electronic music to become a leading figure in the modern Nordic folk revival. Since 2016, Olsen has utilized his technical background to create a 'Viking-inspired' sound that prioritizes atmosphere and ritual over traditional folk song structures.

His work is characterized by the use of authentic field recordings, including unconventional percussion like human bones and animal remains, which he integrates with modern digital production techniques. This 'ritual ambient' approach has earned him significant cultural placement, most notably on the History Channel's Vikings. Olsen operates through his own label, Fimbul Records, maintaining a prolific output that explores the darker, more esoteric corners of Norse mythology. Critically, he is viewed as a bridge between the dark ambient and neofolk communities, praised for his ability to evoke a sense of 'Nordic authenticity' without relying solely on acoustic instrumentation.
