Formed in Houston in 1982 before relocating to San Francisco, the band's early career was defined by extreme brevity and speed, exemplified by their debut 'Dirty Rotten LP' which featured 22 tracks in 18 minutes. As they evolved, guitarist Spike Cassidy integrated more complex metal riffage, leading to their seminal 1987 album 'Crossover', which effectively named the subgenre they helped create. Their sound identity is built on the tension between Kurt Brecht's hardcore-inflected vocal delivery and Cassidy's thrash-oriented guitar work. Culturally, they served as the bridge between the skate-punk and metal communities, two groups that were often at odds in the early 80s.
