Cyntia

Cyntia was a pivotal figure in the Japanese 'Girls Metal Band Boom' of the early 2010s, notably being the first of their peers to secure a major label deal with Victor Entertainment. Formed by guitarist Yui and drummer Kanoko, the band's identity was solidified by the addition of Saki, whose background in musical theater provided a powerful, clear vocal style distinct from the growls or rasps common in Western metal.

Their early work, such as 'Endless World,' leaned heavily into power metal and neoclassical influences. As their career progressed through albums like 'Lady Made' and 'Woman,' they incorporated more diverse elements of pop and hard rock, reflecting a shift toward a broader J-rock audience. The departure of Kanoko in 2015 marked a sonic transition toward the more synth-heavy and polished 'Urban Night' era. Despite their indefinite hiatus in 2018, Cyntia remains a highly respected name in the scene, cited for their technical skill and for paving the way for the commercial viability of all-female metal acts in Japan.
