Cutting Crew

Cutting Crew emerged in 1985 as a quintessential mid-80s pop-rock outfit, formed by English vocalist Nick Van Eede and Canadian guitarist Kevin MacMichael. Their sound is a hallmark of the era's high-fidelity production, characterized by gated reverb, layered synthesizers, and melodic, processed guitar lines.

Their debut single, '(I Just) Died in Your Arms', became a global phenomenon, defining the band's identity as masters of the dramatic, minor-key power ballad. Despite being frequently associated with the 'one-hit wonder' label in casual circles, their debut album Broadcast showcased a deeper range of sophisticated soft rock and new wave influences, earning them a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. MacMichael's guitar work was particularly noted for its melodicism, leading to his later collaboration with Robert Plant.
