Creaming Jesus

Aggressive deathrock meeting thrash metal speed. A percussive wall of noise and screamed vocals for those who find standard goth too polite.

Intro

Creaming Jesus sounds like a collision between the batcave and a thrash metal mosh pit. It is dense, percussive, and relentlessly high-energy, stripping away the romanticism of gothic rock in favor of a raw, punk-infused aggression. The guitars carry a metallic weight that was rare for the scene, while the dual-drummer setup creates a rhythmic onslaught that feels physical.

What makes them distinctive is the 'thrash-goth' mutation. While their contemporaries were often leaning into ethereal textures or synth-pop sensibilities, this band leaned into Slayer-influenced riffs and a vocal delivery that bordered on hardcore. It is music that feels like it was recorded in a humid, overcrowded London club where the air is thick with smoke and feedback.

Start with 'Guilt by Association' to hear them at their most polished and powerful. It captures the transition from their noisy, experimental beginnings into a formidable force that dominated the UK indie charts in the early nineties. If you want something faster and more chaotic, their early EPs like 'Bark' offer a glimpse into their most abrasive era.

Creaming Jesus was an English band formed in London in 1987, influenced by gothic rock, punk and thrash metal. Their original line up was Andy (vocals), Lil (vocals), Tally (bass), Roy (drums), Lindy (drums), and Paul Scanlan (guitar). Their original sound was a wall of percussive noise (two drummers and a drum machine), Slayer-influenced thrash metal guitarists and screamed vocals.
