Quirky, piano-led art pop that balances jazz-schooled precision with a childlike sense of wonder. Perfect for sunny mornings and thoughtful commutes.
Clammbon sounds like the intersection of a sophisticated jazz lounge and a whimsical children's storybook. The music is anchored by Ikuko Harada's distinctive, breathy vocals and fluid piano work, which weave through complex harmonic structures that never feel heavy or academic. Instead, there is a lightness and a sense of play that permeates every track, making even their most experimental moments feel inviting and warm.
What truly sets them apart is the telepathic chemistry between the three members. Mito's bass lines are melodic and driving, while Daisuke Itou's drumming provides a crisp, often syncopated backbone that allows the songs to breathe and expand. They possess a rare ability to transition from tight, radio-friendly pop hooks into expansive, jam-influenced instrumental sections without losing the listener, creating a sound that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant.
Start with the album 'Musical' to hear them at their most cohesive and vibrant. It captures their signature blend of organic instrumentation and subtle electronic flourishes, serving as a perfect gateway into their expansive and evolving discography. For those seeking their more experimental side, '2010' offers a deeper dive into their art-rock sensibilities.
Clammbon (クラムボン, Kuramubon) is a Japanese musical trio, consisting of vocalist/keyboardist Ikuko Harada, bassist Mito and drummer Daisuke Itou. The group, originally formed in 1996 when the three were students of the jazz department at SHOBI College of Music, made their major label debut on Warner Music Japan three years later. Their music is characterized by their quirky sound combining jazzy chord progressions with J-pop and electronica influences. They left their major label and went indie in 2015. The name Clammbon is taken from a fictional character in the Kenji Miyazawa novel Yamanashi.
