Polished Swedish hip-hop with a soulful, sample-heavy backbone. Technical rhymes delivered with a relaxed, late-night confidence for fans of classic boom bap.
Chords delivers a sound that feels like a bridge between the golden era of New York boom bap and the distinct, cool-headed sensibility of the Swedish underground. His music is defined by a deep reverence for the soul and jazz records that provide his samples, resulting in a warm, organic texture that avoids the sterility of modern digital production. It is hip-hop that prioritizes the 'groove' and the 'pocket,' creating a space where the listener can lean back and appreciate the craftsmanship of the beat as much as the lyricism.
What truly sets Chords apart is his technical precision paired with a remarkably relaxed delivery. While many of his contemporaries lean into aggression or high-energy hype, Chords maintains a composed, almost conversational tone even when navigating complex multisyllabic rhyme schemes. This creates a unique tension: the lyrics are dense and demanding of attention, but the vibe remains effortlessly chill. His choice to primarily perform in English gives his work a global resonance while retaining a specific Scandinavian 'cool' that is hard to replicate.
For those looking to dive in, 'Things We Do for Things' is the essential starting point. It showcases his ability to blend social observation with personal introspection over beats that feel both nostalgic and timeless. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments that require focus, a steady rhythm, and a touch of urban sophistication.
