Chicosci is a seminal Filipino rock band that played a pivotal role in the 'Tower of Doom' and NU 107 era of OPM (Original Pilipino Music). Formed in 1997 as Chico Science, they initially emerged as part of the nu-metal and rap-metal wave with their debut 'Revenge of the Giant Robot'.
However, their career is defined by a successful and influential pivot toward post-hardcore, emo, and alternative rock. This transition, solidified by the 2002 album 'Method of Breathing' and the 2004 release 'Icarus', saw them trade rap-inflected vocals for melodic, breathy singing and more complex, atmospheric guitar work. Their 2006 self-titled album turned them into mainstream icons in the Philippines, blending a 'vampire' aesthetic with high-production rock. Critically, they are respected for their longevity and their ability to reinvent their sound without losing their core intensity. They occupy a unique space alongside peers like Urbandub and Typecast, representing a more stylish, urban-focused branch of the Pinoy rock explosion of the 2000s.
