Intro

Chatham County Line (CCL) emerged from the fertile Raleigh, North Carolina music scene in 1999, rising from the remains of the country-rock outfit Stillhouse. Led by Dave Wilson, the band quickly distinguished itself from the 'newgrass' movement by focusing on original, narrative-driven songwriting rather than traditional standards or high-speed jam sessions.

Their long-standing partnership with producer Chris Stamey (of The dB's) has given their discography a sophisticated, hi-fi sheen rarely found in independent bluegrass. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, they became staples of the international folk circuit, finding significant success in Europe. The departure of founding banjo player Chandler Holt marked a shift toward a more expansive, percussion-inclusive sound on albums like 'Strange Fascination' and 'Hiyo.' Critically, they are praised for their 'chamber-bluegrass' sensibility and Wilson's evocative, often melancholic lyrics that draw heavily on Southern imagery and historical vignettes.
