Capricorn

Capricorn is the primary electronic alias of Dutch producer and engineer Hans Weekhout. Emerging in the early 1990s, the project became a cornerstone of the Global Cuts label (a subsidiary of R&S Records).

Weekhout brought a high level of technical proficiency to the burgeoning rave scene, having previously worked with diverse artists ranging from Falco to Ian Gillan. This professional background resulted in a sound that was more sonically robust than much of the bedroom-produced techno of the era. The 1993 hit 20 Hz remains his most significant contribution to music history, celebrated for its innovative use of low-frequency percussion and tribal rhythms that influenced both the progressive house and techno scenes. While the project is often associated with the 'Belgian sound' due to its label affiliation, Weekhout's Dutch roots and soul/funk background provided a unique rhythmic swing. Critically, Capricorn is viewed as a bridge between the raw energy of early hardcore/rave and the more polished, atmospheric techno that would dominate the later decade.
