Calboy

Melodic Chicago trap that pairs vulnerable, pop-punk-influenced hooks with the sharp edges of drill. Introspective music for late-night drives and heavy thinking.

Intro

Calboy creates a sound that is simultaneously gritty and ethereal, bridging the gap between the aggressive energy of Chicago drill and the heart-on-sleeve vulnerability of emo-rap. His music is defined by a liquid-smooth melodic sensibility, where auto-tuned vocals don't just correct pitch but act as a primary instrument of emotional expression. The beats often feature shimmering synth pads and melancholic guitar loops that provide a soft bed for his sharp, rhythmic delivery.

What truly distinguishes him is his unexpected influence from 2000s pop-punk and alternative rock. You can hear the ghost of a power-chord hook in the way he structures his choruses, giving his tracks a sing-along quality that feels more like an anthem than a standard rap verse. It is this fusion of street-level storytelling with a radio-ready melodic instinct that makes his work resonate across different scenes.

Start with the breakout single Envy Me to understand his gift for infectious hooks, then move into the Wildboy EP to hear how he balances high-profile collaborations with his own solitary, introspective style. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments when you feel the weight of the world but still need a beat to keep you moving.

Calvin Lashon Woods (born April 3, 1999), better known by his stage name Calboy (), is an American rapper from Calumet City, Illinois. He is best known for his 2018 single "Envy Me", which received quintuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Its success led him to sign with Polo Grounds Music, an imprint of RCA Records. His debut extended play, Wilboy (2018), peaked at number 30 on the Billboard 200, while his second, Love Live the Kings (2020), lukewarmly entered the chart.
