Violent, feedback-heavy sludge that feels like a physical confrontation. Raw Southern nihilism for when you need music that bites back.
Buzzov•en is a foundational pillar of the American sludge metal scene, emerging from North Carolina in 1989. Led by the volatile and singular vision of Kirk Fisher, the band pioneered a sound that fused the slow, agonizing crawl of Black Sabbath with the abrasive, high-speed nihilism of hardcore punk and noise rock.
Their early work on Allied Recordings established a cult following, but it was their 1994 Roadrunner debut, 'Sore', that cemented their reputation for sonic violence and unpredictability. The band's history is marked by extreme instability, frequent lineup changes, and a notorious live reputation involving self-destruction and physical confrontation. Culturally, they serve as the bridge between the NOLA sludge scene (Eyehategod) and the more psychedelic-leaning stoner metal that followed, with former members going on to form influential acts like Weedeater. Their influence is most felt in the 'sludgecore' subgenre, where their use of feedback as an instrument and misanthropic lyrical themes became the standard for the underground.
