Britny Fox

High-pitched raspy vocals meet heavy blues-rock riffs. It is the sound of an eighties basement party that spilled out into a stadium. Pure, unadulterated sleaze rock.

Intro

Britny Fox embodies the gritty, high-energy peak of the Philadelphia glam metal scene. Their sound is defined by a distinctive vocal rasp that cuts through thick layers of overdriven guitars and cavernous stadium-sized drum production. It is music that feels like it was born in a humid club and polished for MTV, balancing blue-collar toughness with the theatrical flair of the hair metal era.

What sets them apart is the sheer intensity of the performance. While many of their contemporaries leaned into pop-radio sweetness, Britny Fox maintained a sharper, more aggressive edge. The riffs are rooted in a heavy blues tradition, but the execution is pure adrenaline, characterized by massive gang-vocal hooks and a relentless rhythmic drive that demands movement.

To understand the appeal, start with their 1988 self-titled debut. Tracks like 'Girlschool' and 'Long Way to Love' perfectly capture the transition from the Sunset Strip aesthetic to a more East Coast, hard-rocking sensibility. It is the ideal starting point for anyone looking to experience the loud, proud, and unapologetically fun spirit of late-eighties rock and roll.

Britny Fox was an American glam metal band from the Philadelphia area, initially active from 1985 to 1992 then subsequently reforming from 2000 to 2003, again in 2006 to 2008 and final time reforming in 2015 to 2016. They are best known for their music video for "Girlschool" and their minor hit "Long Way to Love" (U.S. No. 100). Bassist Billy Childs has been the only band member to be a part of each of the band's many lineups. In 2020, Jeff Mezydlo of Yardbarker included them in his list of "the 20 greatest hair metal bands of all time".
