Brighten

Brighten is an American indie pop rock band formed in Chico, California, in 2004. Led by Justin Richards, the band emerged from the mid-2000s alternative scene but quickly distinguished themselves through a sound that prioritized melody and acoustic warmth over the prevailing emo-pop trends. Their career has been marked by significant industry hurdles, including a legal battle between Victory Records and Carbon Copy Media that delayed their debut full-length, 'King vs. Queen.' Despite these setbacks, they maintained a dedicated cult following through independent releases and a reputation for high-quality songwriting.

Richards' involvement as a touring and session musician for A Rocket to the Moon further connected Brighten to the broader 'neon' pop-rock era, yet Brighten's own output remained more grounded in rootsy, California-inspired pop.
