High-energy Polish teen pop with a rebellious mall-punk edge. Bratty vocals, crunchy guitars, and the unmistakable aesthetic of the mid-2000s internet era.
Blog 27 sounds like a time capsule of 2005 suburban rebellion. It is a sugary, high-velocity collision between European dance-pop and the burgeoning 'emo' fashion of the era. The music is defined by its youthful, slightly unpolished vocal delivery and a production style that favors loud, compressed synths and crunchy power chords. It captures the specific feeling of being a teenager at the dawn of the social media age, full of restless energy and a performative sense of defiance.
What makes them distinctive is the 'bratty' quality of Tola and Ala's performances. Unlike the hyper-curated pop stars of the West, Blog 27 felt like two actual teenagers who had just stepped out of a mall. Their sound is characterized by simple, infectious hooks and a DIY spirit that survived even within a major label framework. The blend of Polish pop sensibilities with an aesthetic borrowed from the Tokyo Hotel and Avril Lavigne scene created a unique cultural moment in Eastern Europe.
Start with the debut album 'LOL' to hear the peak of their commercial power. Tracks like 'Hey Boy (Get Your Ass Up)' and their cover of 'Uh La La La' are essential listening for anyone wanting to understand the mid-2000s Polish pop landscape. It is music for feeling invincible, even if only for the duration of a three-minute pop song.
Blog 27 was a Polish musical group founded in 2005 by two teenage vocalists Tola Szlagowska and Ala Boratyn performing pop music with elements of pop punk and pop rock. The duo's debut album, LOL (2005), was certified double platinum in Poland and also achieved moderate success in Western Europe and Japan. It included three internationally charting singles: "Uh La La La", "Hey Boy (Get Your Ass Up)" and "Wid Out Ya". After Ala's departure in 2006, the act released one more album, Before I'll Die... (2008), but shortly after that Tola relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in music, and the band has since been inactive. Blog 27 has sold over 250,000 records worldwide and is regarded as the forerunner of the emo fashion in Poland.
