Biquini, originally Biquini Cavadão, emerged from the fertile Rio de Janeiro rock scene of the early 1980s. While they are often grouped with the 'BRock' movement alongside Titãs and Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Biquini carved out a niche through a specific blend of new wave aesthetics and anthemic pop-rock.

Their 1985 debut single 'Tédio' became a generational touchstone, capturing the restless energy of Brazilian youth during the country's transition to democracy. Throughout the 1990s, they evolved their sound, incorporating more sophisticated production and exploring darker, more introspective lyrical themes in albums like 'Descivilização'. The band's longevity is attributed to their consistent touring and a high-fidelity live sound that was famously captured in their 2005 live CD/DVD, which revitalized their career for a younger audience. Critically, they are respected for their technical proficiency and Bruno Gouveia's charismatic front-man presence. Their influence persists in the way they bridged the gap between post-punk experimentation and mainstream accessibility, maintaining a stable lineup for most of their forty-year history.
