Intro

Big Giant Circles creates a sound that feels like the best parts of your childhood gaming memories reimagined through a professional studio lens. It is bright, melodic, and intensely rhythmic, characterized by the chirpy textures of 8-bit sound chips layered over the muscular production of modern electronic dance music. The music often carries a sense of forward motion, as if every track is the background to a high-stakes digital quest.

What sets Jimmy Hinson apart is his ability to bridge the gap between the 'bleepy-bloopy' constraints of retro hardware and the expansive scale of a Hollywood score. You will hear soaring synth leads that mimic the emotional weight of a violin, backed by complex, driving percussion and rich harmonic depth. It is not just about the novelty of old sounds; it is about using those sounds to craft genuine, anthemic compositions that stand on their own outside of a game console.

For those new to the sound, 'Impostor Nostalgia' is the essential starting point. It serves as a manifesto for the project, featuring collaborations with other scene heavyweights and showcasing a range of moods from high-octane synth-rock to contemplative electronic soundscapes. It is the perfect companion for when you need to feel capable, focused, and slightly heroic.

Jimmy Hinson, also known as Big Giant Circles, is an American musician and composer in the video games industry. Originally adopting the name as a hobbyist submitting video game music remixes/rearrangements to OverClocked ReMix, Hinson now actively composes video game soundtracks. He has contributed to the soundtracks of Borderlands 2, Threes!, There Came an Echo, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Mass Effect 2. Hinson is credited with his work on several independent games including Pocket Mine and Extreme Roadtrip 2, and has contributed to OverClocked ReMix. His style has garnered him praise from Daniel Floyd of Extra Credits and Anthony and Ashly Burch of Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'?, as well as positive press from Kotaku and GameTrailers.
