Hyperactive digital punk and 8-bit thrash that feels like a sugar-fueled basement show. Short, loud, and gloriously chaotic electronic pop for restless energy.
Best Fwends sound like a corrupted Nintendo cartridge being played through a megaphone at a house party. It is high-velocity, low-fidelity electronic music that borrows the raw aggression of hardcore punk and filters it through the cheap, plastic synths of early 2000s bedroom software. The songs are incredibly brief, often clocking in under a minute, delivering a concentrated burst of distorted beats and shouted vocals before disappearing.
What makes them distinctive is their total lack of pretension and their 'don't need a stage' ethos. While other electronic acts of the era were chasing polished club sounds, this duo leaned into the limitations of their gear, creating a sound that is both abrasive and undeniably catchy. Their vocal delivery is frantic and amateurish in the best way possible, capturing the feeling of two friends yelling over a loud stereo just for the fun of it.
Start with 'Alphabetically Arranged' to get the full scope of their chaotic vision. It is a relentless collection of micro-songs that serves as the perfect introduction to their 'pop thrash' aesthetic. It is the ideal soundtrack for moments when you have too much energy and nowhere to put it, or when you just want to hear music that refuses to take itself seriously for even a second.
Best Fwends are a musical group from Fort Worth, Texas. All but unknown in the United States, the duo have attracted much more notice in Europe, having been featured in a Bacardi commercial in the United Kingdom and performing at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík and Øyafestivalen in Norway. The song featured in the Bacardi ad is "Bedroom Music" and was the first song the group ever recorded. They have also been featured at SXSW. They have released one full-length album and two EPs on Moshi Moshi Records. When performing live, they use only their voices and an iPod. Difficult to categorize, their music is often compared to early Beastie Boys, and has been called punk. The band, however, claim to not be talented enough to have a "sound." They are reported to use FL Studio in studio. Recently, they recorded musical scores for several cartoons produced by Frederator Studios, including Bravest Warriors, SuperF*ckers and Our New Electrical Morals.
